Bikram’s Therapeutic Yoga is a series of 26 Hatha yoga postures and two breathing exercises performed in a heated room suitable for all ages and levels of ability. The postures are done in the safe environment of a heated room so that deep penetration can relieve one's body resistance without risking injury. Each pose is a challenge based on one's personal abilities.
The Bikram Yoga series was scientifically crafted by Bikram
Choudhury to stretch and strengthen all the body’s muscles, joints,
ligaments and tendons. Bikram Yoga systematically promotes fresh, oxygenated
blood to every part of the body; stimulating organs, glands,
nerves, and restoring all systems to a healthy working order.
Bikram designed this 90-minute class to prevent illness and heal injuries; and promote weight loss and detoxification while slowing the aging process. Increased muscle tone and flexibility, vibrant health and a sense of well-being are benefits of practicing Bikram Yoga. These postures work synergistically and cumulatively to put the body back on track and in balance. This yoga builds strength, balance and flexibility by gently stretching and massaging the spine, muscles, tendons, joints, and all internal organs of the body. Lung capacity is expanded, leading to greater vitality. Bones are strengthened. Joints are opened and lubricated. Muscles are strengthened, toned and made more flexible. Regular practice of this series of postures results in the healing and repair of injuries and illnesses, weight loss, and peace of mind.
